Well, the signs are all here -- grapes, Fall squashes and melons, and there is a chill in the air, so this may be the last weekend for a generous offering of summer vegetables. Many farmers have gorgeous sauce tomatoes, including Mountain Sweet Berry, Cheerful Cherry, Eckerton, and D'Attolico, so I've planned an hour for cooking down these meaty and tasty varieties for the freezer. Oak Grove also has great tomatoes, and Norwich, Oak Grove, and Sycamore, in addition to several of the above, have delicious heirloom tomatoes and tasty peppers. Gorzynski and Paffenroth have wide selections of gorgeous lettuces, other greens, herbs, and other great produce. Northshire has big beautiful vegetables.
Mountain Sweet Berry has haricots both green and yellow, sucrine lettuce, baby leeks, and Tri-Star strawberries. Oak Grove and Sycamore have corn, and Eckerton and Oak Grove have unique and interesting pepper varieties.
Apples are moving in on peaches, although there are still peaches and plums in the market. You can find blueberries, and several farmstands including D'Attolico have raspberries. Buzzard Krest is here with their red and white grape juices and interesting grape varieties.BULLETIN: Next week will be the last for Fantasy Fruit's blueberries, blackberries, and strawberries.
