Tomato heaven! There are beautiful heirloom tomatoes all around the market today. I picked up an Aunt Ruby and a couple of others at various stands and saw beauties at Eckerton, Stokes, Keith, Cherry Lane, Oak Grove, Bodhitree, and others.

Rogowski snow peas
Mountain Sweet Berry, Cherry Lane, Berried Treasures, and others have gorgeous sauce tomatoes, too. It was hard to resist filling a whole shopping cart today!
S&SO artichokes and tomatillos
It's actually peak season for tomatoes, peaches, corn, squashes of all sorts, and a wide variety of hot and sweet peppers are coming into peak.  I picked up some Anaheims at Oak Grove, along with a couple of tomatoes, and have a beautiful bowlful of knockout tomatoes and peppers to admire before I dig in.  Don't miss the lovely shelling beans and string beans at Berried Treasures and the sucrine lettuces both green and red at Mountain Sweet Berry. Both of those also have sweet Tri-Star strawberries and wild blueberries, and Berried Treasures has rhubarb!
Eckerton's heirloom tomatoes
Paffenroth has multicolored choices of carrots, tasty beets, and unusual greens like purslane, tiny baby fennel, and huge bunches of cut herbs.  There are many stands with berries and currants, including Locust Grove, Fantasy Fruit, Phillips, Hodgsons, and others.
Garden of Eden mushrooms
Sycamore has their usual great corn and tomatoes and has brought in a new product -- zucchini bread -- which I had for breakfast and was delicious.

Congratulations to Modesto on the 20th anniversary of foraging in the Greenmarket!!!

Modesto checking out the peppers at Norwich
Gramercy Tavern is lucky to have him choosing the beautiful produce we enjoy in the tavern or main rooms there.  I've enjoyed trying to get to the beautiful Charontais melons at Norwich Meadows Farm or Bodhitree before he goes through and snaffles the supply!

It was a schmoozathon today in Union Square. Met a guy who's only two or three degrees of separation from me shopping at Consider Bardwell's cheese stand! (His father went to my high school, his boss went to my college, etc.) It can be fun talking to other customers in the market.
Toigo's wonderful stone fruit
Meanwhile, back to those melons. You can't go wrong with a fragrant melon from one of those two sources, not to mention their delicious heirloom tomatoes! Many stands have mixed varieties of eggplants, squashes, beans, and corn. There are Tri-Star strawberries and red currants at Berried Treasures, along with fava beans out of their shells, zucchini blossoms, and cut herbs.  Madura has several kinds of mushroom and Lucky Dog has good-looking blueberries.
