Walpole, New Hampshire!

Trust me to go to NH for snow when the snow is down south!!! But I'm happy up here enjoying the sheep, the Jack Russells, the cows, and the gorgeous views. I'll be back in time for the Wednesday Union Square market, though.

Apples!!! Eggs!!! Cider!!!

Well, my plan was to stay in bed until, oh, 10 o'clock, and to avoid the snow, but I had forgotten that I LIKE snow and that I didn't have milk. At 8:30 or so I was out, walking to Whole Paycheck. To my surprise, there were tents up in Union Square and there were farmstands! There are three apple orchards with cider, apples, and pears, and a stand with eggs (and possibly chicken? I didn't check). The Greenmarket truck and stand are there, too. I ran into Annie from Spotted Pig, which made a grand total of two customers, but If you have to choose, Annie is the cheerful person I'd want to see!

Blood Orange Marmalade! Mixed Dried Beans! Lamb for Braising!

Locust Grove and Terhune are here with apples and cider. Beth's Jams has delicious pickled vegetables, chutneys, jams, and jellies. (Their stars, as far as I'm concerned, include Blood Orange Marmalade, raspberry jam, and Blazing Tomato Chutney, but I like a lot of others as well.) Three Corner Field Farm has excellent cuts of lamb and lamb sausage and there is good fish to be had in the market as well. Cayuga is here with grains and beans and Tamarack has pork products. There's a new meat purveyor whose poultry and meats I haven't tried yet, but it looks interesting. Ronnybrook is here with milks, butters, yogurts, and ice cream.
