Fairytale eggplant! Corn! Okra!

Cherry Lane has tiny Fairytale purple and white eggplants. Evolutionary, Oak Grove, and Cherry Lane have various types of okra. Eckerton, Oak Grove, Cherry Lane, and Sycamore have heirloom tomatoes. The big hit of the day is beans -- all kinds of beans, from Berried Treasures purple and green stringbeans, delicious Romano flat beans, and favas to Cherry Lane's string beans and Mountain Sweet Berry's haricots verts, there are many farmstands with tasty varieties.

Many stands also have corn, including Eckerton, Sycamore, and Cherry Lane. Stokes Farm has great looking onions and garlic as well as big bunches of cut herbs, and Berried Treasures has chamomile. Miglorelli has a wide variety of good-looking produce.

Peaches are coming in and Terhune, Oak Grove, and others have them as well as apricots and other stone fruit. Berried Treasures has big succulent strawberries and blackberries, and Fantasy Fruit has blueberries, raspberries, and strawberries.

Ronnybrook has drinkable yogurt, both plain and fruit flavored, and some of the best butter to be had in the city, both flavored (garlic) and salt or sweet.

Sycamore won't be bringing in their usual second loads of fresh picked corn on Saturdays this year due to the high cost of gasoline for the second trip ($100!). They weren't selling enough to make up for the gas prices. Northshire has CARDOONS!!!!

Stokes Farm has big beautiful bunches of herbs and delicious pale green squash. Mountain Sweet Berry has excellent flat and string beans, both green and yellow.

It's a beautiful day for the Greenmarket and the produce is hitting its summer stride. Check Cheerful Cherry for their last sweet dark cherries, Oak Grove for watermelons, peaches, and tomatoes, Sycamore for bicolor corn, Eckerton for tomatoes, peppers, herbs, and other delicious vegetables, and Cherry Lane and others for heirloom tomatoes, okra, and corn.

Artichokes, Fava Beans, Cherry Juice



Muddy River Farm has young ARTICHOKES, beautiful onions, and big bunches of herbs. Norwich has heirloom tomatoes, many varieties of eggplant, flat beans, fava beans, fresh young garlic, and various squashes. Sycamore has white and bicolor corn, big bunches of basil, field tomatoes, and other produce. Check out Yuno's stand for heirloom tomatoes, many squash varieties, peppers, and other great vegetables.

This is the last weekend for Cheerful Cherry's outstanding black cherries. They have their delicious cherry juice today, as well as the first of their peaches. Samascott has blueberries and Red Jacket has apricots. Oak Grove has cut and whole watermelon, peaches, and peppers.

River Garden is here today with beautiful bouquets and Newfield Farm has gorgeous bunches of "Prairie Rose" (Lycianthus).

Okra, Fava Beans, Heirloom Tomatoes, Chanterelles!


Sycamore, Oak Grove, and Eckerton all have the beginnings of their heirloom tomato crop today. Oack Grove also has red and yellow watermelons, yellow and white peaches, corn, and other produce. Eckerton has Walla Walla onions, hot peppers, fresh cut herbs, and wineberries. Sycamore has corn, peppers, cut basil, and cucumbers. Evolutionary has leafy greens, various squashes, and other vegetables.


Cherry Lane has new red and yukon gold potatoes, corn, and heirloom tomatoes. Evolutionary has good looking okra. Honey Hollow has chanterelles, dried mushrooms, and other goodies. Fantasy Fruit is here with raspberries and blueberries. Berried Treasures has black raspberries and strawberries. Stokes has squashes, fresh garlic, tomatoes, and generous bunches of cut herbs.

River Garden has beautiful wildflowers and Flora Perfecta has lovely lilies.

Okra, Long Beans, Fava Beans, Black Currants!

I picked up the first of Yuno's excellent long beans, zucchini blossoms and some summer squash,Madura's good looking new red potatoes, Fantasy Fruit's raspberries and blueberries, and beautiful lycianthus from Newfield Farm. Norwich and Yuno both had okra and Norwich has alot of fava beans today, as well as young fennel and many other greens, beans, and tasty onion varieties. Maxwell's Farm has generous bunches of cut herbs as well as other good looking produce. Red Jacket has apricots which look ready and Race is here with produce, plants, and baked goods.

I'm happy to say that the Monday market has several great shopping options!

Look for tomatoes at Eckerton , Cherry Lane, Oak Grove



I'm taking today off to stay with my new kitten while he adjusts to the new place, but I can tell you the following: This will be the next to last week for Cheerful Cherry's amazing dark sweet cherries, so I'd definately stop there for a big box. Sycamore's corn was delicious yesterday, and they're in the market today. Paffenroth's array of interesting produce is growing with the season, especially their decorative and unusual root vegetables and green vegetables such as baby fennel. Fantasy Fruit's blueberries and raspberries made for an outstanding cobbler last week (in which I also mixed some of Cheerful Cherry's sour cherries, which they have this week as well). Norwich has great produce, including many mini-squashes and fava beans. Oak Grove has excellent hot and sweet peppers and delicious red and yellow watermelons as well as tasty peaches.

Okra, Peppers, Top Notch Cherries!

I'm going to have Dancing Ewe's delicious ricotta with Oak Grove's peaches and Samascott's blueberries for breakfast, after a couple of ears of Sycamore's corn. I'll finish off with Cheerful Cherry's outstanding dark sweet cherries.

Oak Grove also has their great hot and sweet peppers, okra, and succulent yellow and red watermelons. Yuno has excellent peppers, tomatoes, several types of bean, and various root vegetables and greens. Muddy River has big tasty red and white onions.

River Garden is here with beautiful wildflowers and Newfield Farm has exquisite lycianthus and gladioli.

A New Greenmarket Author

It's going to be hellishly hot later today, but right now the Greenmarket is cool and beautiful. Summer fruit is in all over the market, with Fantasy Fruit, Locust Grove, Berried Treasures, Oak Grove, and others offering all sorts of berries, peaches, apricots, and watermelon.

S&SO has a wide variety of gorgeous and reasonably priced produce. Paffenroth also is here with delicious produce, and Windfall Farm has tasty greens, edible flowers, and other vegetables. Eckerton has beautiful Cherokee Purple tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, fresh cut herbs, and other greens. I picked up a copy of Tim Stark's new book, HEIRLOOM:NOTES FROM AN ACCIDENTAL TOMATO FARMER, and will be reading it later. (I'm developing quite a shelf of Greenmarket authors, including Keith's IT'S A LONG WAY TO A TOMATO.)

Flora Perfecta has wonderful lilies today and the rose people have beautiful roses, sweet peas, and other flowers.

Apricots, Black Currants, Fennel!

Got a late start this morning because I was watching the Bastille Day parade on TV5 -- very impressive! I especially enjoyed the Foreign Legion and the guards on horseback. The parachutists at the end were pretty exciting, too.

Summer fruit is finally in full supply. Red Jacket has several kinds of cherries, apricots, and berries. Fantasy Fruit has blueberries, raspberries, and plump black currants. Other stands have berries, apricots, and peaches. Red Jacket also has juices.

I bought beautiful zucchini blossoms and field tomatoes from Yuno. They also have several kinds of hot and sweet peppers, beans, salad greens, and purslane. Norwich has beautiful produce as well, including several kinds of onion, fava beans, lettuces, and good-looking fennel. Maxwell has cut herbs, berries, and beans. Madura's varieties of produce are increasing and there are meat and bread stands as well.

Newfield Farm has beautiful flowers, including lycianthus, gladiolas, lilies, and others. River Garden has lovely wildflowers.

Zucchini Blossoms, Cherries, Baby Fennel

The Greenmarket is absolutely gorgeous today, with lush greens, cherries in many colors, and greenhouse heirloom tomatoes in reds, greens, yellows, and orange. Cheerful Cherry has delicious sour, dark, and Queen Anne cherries. Locust Grove's cherries and berries are also tasty. Stokes Farm has summer squashes, generous bunches of cut herbs, juicy red greenhouse tomatoes, and salad and other greens. Mountain Sweet Berry has baby rainbow chard, chervil, chives, and tiny potatoes. Northshire has cardoons.


Paffenroth has big bunches of many varieties of carrots, beets, radishes, and baby fennel. Check Norwich for squashes, eggplants, and a wide variety of unique produce. Sycamore has bicolor corn, tomatoes, shell peas, and cucumbers. Cherry Lane has heirloom tomatoes and basil plants. Gorzynski has beautiful organic greens and D'Attolico has lovely zucchini blossoms. Eckerton has great greens, spray-free yellow corn, and heirloom tomatoes.

Quattro's has young heritage chickens, other young chickens, great eggs, and sausages. They've moved from the rise to the Park Avenue end of the market. Look on the rise for Keith's rocambole garlic and other organic vegetables, and for Norwich Farm.

Lycianthus, Watermelon, Sweet Peas!

It's an absolutely beautiful day and the Friday Greenmarket is colorful and getting bigger! There are new produce stands and some delicious new vegetables. Yuno has a wide array of flavorful peppers and squashes, Norwich has all sorts of squashes, beans, savory greens, and other vegetables. Muddy River has excellent garlic.

I bought a couple of ears of bicolor corn from Sycamore. The ones I bought on Wednesday were very good, so I was encouraged to try them today for breakfast! Eckerton also had delicious corn on Wednesday. Both of them will be here tomorrow.

Samascott has wonderful fresh blueberries and other berries and cherries as well as good looking strawberries. Cheerful Cherry has even more delicious cherries than last week's stunners and Ted Blew (Oak Grove has delicious peaches and big slices of cut red and yellow watermelon.

Newfield Farm has the first LYCIANTHUS and beautiful gladiolas.River Garden has lovely bouquets of wildflowers and the rose people have purple sweet peas.

Sugar Snaps, Sweet Peas, Black Raspberries!



Breezy Hill has apple cider sorbet. Berried Treasures has fresh chamomile, big tasty Tri-Star strawberries, and black raspberries. Eckerton has sweet yellow corn, tomatoes, and other excellent produce. Cherry Lane has beautiful vegetables and gladiolas. Stokes has sweet cherry tomatoes, summer squash, and generous bunches of cut herbs. Honey Hollow Farm has good looking mushrooms. Mountain Sweet Berry has baby kale, wild baby arugula, chervil, chives, and fava beans.

The orchid stand next to Flora Perfecta has beautiful and unusual orchids. Flora Perfecta has lovely lilies, roses, and other flowers. The rose people have gorgeous roses and sweet peas. Sycamore has bicolor corn, bunches of basil, and delicious sugar snap peas and shelling peas.

Purslane, Favas, and Gladiolas!

We're lucky to have such a complete market on Mondays. Yuno and Norwich are here with beautiful produce, there is a stand with terrific seafood and fish, and you can find meat, fruit, and flowers as well as a couple of good bread options. Phillips has berries and peaches and Newfield Farm is bringing in the first of her lovely gladiolas. Yuno and Norwich have fava beans and Norwich has an unusual variety of purslane as well as other unique vegetables. Yuno has some interesting peppers and beans. Red Jacket has ciders.

Quail! Gooseberries! Fava Beans! Corn! Peaches!




Northshire has QUAIL, Violet Hill has several different kinds of bacon, including delicious butt bacon, and Quattro's (in a slight change of location on the Park Ave side of the market) has plump young chickens, great eggs, and pheasant sausage.


Mountain Sweet Berry and Norwich Farm have fava beans. D'Attolico has shelling peas. Several farms have beautiful lettuces and other greens and S&SO and Norwich have mini squashes. Stokes has big bunches of herbs, greenhouse tomatoes, and delicious summer squash. Sycamore has corn and fresh basil. Cheerful Cherry has wonderful cherries and Fantasy Fruit has GOOSEBERRIES! Oak Grove (Ted Blew) has PEACHES!

The rose people have beautiful sweet peas in addition to two types of lovely roses.

Corn! Cherries! Beautiful Greens!




Sycamore has CORN today! Cheerful Cherry has sweet and delicious deep red and Queen Anne cherries today, as well as their excellent sour cherries. I'm planning a cobbler! Red Jacket has their first apricots today, but a bit early. They also have this year's sour cherry Stomp. Esopus has beautiful greens and Yuno has green and yellow string beans (the slim haricots variety), the beginning of their tasty peppers, and greens. Samascott has asparagus, raspberries, blueberries, and several cherry varieties. Muddy River Farm has excellent new garlic, huge bunches of fresh cilantro and other herbs, and other vegetables and Norwich has mini squashes,large squashes, several kinds of beans, and greens.


Newfield Farm has the first of her gladiolas.

There are 16 farmers who didn't come in this Friday.

Corn, Scapes, and Cherry Tomatoes

Several farmers have scapes, young garlic, various spring onions, and chives. Keith has young shallots and Mountain Sweet Berry has red and white baby onions. Mountain Sweet Berry also has fava beans, chervil, chives, and wild baby arugula. Eckerton has CORN and will have heirloom tomatoes in a couple of weeks. They have excellent cherry tomatoes and pear tomatoes now. The Greenmarket is lush and green with many farmers bringing in cherries, tasty greens, and sugar snap peas.Sycamore will have CORN on Saturday!!! Stokes Farm has many kinds of squashes and their sweet cherry tomatoes.

Berried Treasures has good looking Tri-Star strawberries and there are a couple of stands with blueberries. Eckerton has black raspberries. Sycamore has strawberries ad well.

River Garden has beautiful wildflower bouquets and Flora Perfecta has lovely lilies and potted begonias.
