Pumpkins and gourds are taking over! Grapes at Cheerful Cherry! Heirloom tomato supply shrinking at a few stands, still generous at Norwich, Oak Grove, Bodhitree, and others!

I ate my way through a jar of Cheerful Cherry's Canadice grape jelly, so had to buy another today! Picked up a delicious raisin challah from Hot Bread Kitchen, scented violet roses from Rose Meadow, beautiful purple and white gladiolas from Dutchmill, Indigo Rose tomatoes from Norwich Meadows, and a couple of beautiful heirloom tomatoes from Oak Grove.  For dessert, I'm going to have a selection of Las Delicias pastry and cookies.

Paffenroth has pumpkins! You know what THAT means!! Berried Treasures has shelling beans!!

Grapes and pumpkins, fewer stands with peaches, several stands with winter squash! You know the season is changing. There are plenty of heirloom and other tomatoes in the market, but it's really time to think about (and proceed to) canning or freezing for the winter. Corn also is nearing an end  point, although there are still several stands with good ears.  Another sign of change is the number of stands with hot and sweet peppers -- you can freeze some varieties for the winter. I also scrape a few ears of corn for freezing.

I know what I'm going to be doing!  San Marzano tomatoes from Cherry Lane, Polish and other large plum tomatoes from Stokes, Bodhitree, and Cheerful Cherry(on Friday and Saturday), orange Thai hot peppers and Trinidadian flavoring peppers from Eckerton for the freezer, shelling beans from Berried Treasures for the freezer, and cut herbs from Stokes and SandSO to dry.

Dancing Ewe is back!!! Berried Treasures has delicious sweet heirloom tomatoes!! Dutchmill has still got a couple of bunches of lycianthus!!

I took the week off to sleep late and eat out for lunches, but I walked back through the Greenmarket and saw lovely heirlooms at many stands, including Berried Treasures, tasty tartufo cheese at Dancing Ewe, and wonderful pastries at Las Delicias.  There are still peaches around the market, but pick carefully -- once grapes show up, you know that stone fruit is going to be finished soon. Berried Treasures excellent haricots verts and other beans are delicious at the moment and Norwich Meadows will be here tomorrow as well as today with great produce.

I'll be back in the market early tomorrow, when I expect to see Buzzard Crest and Cheerful Cherry grapes and many delicious vegetables and melons.
