Cheese pumpkins! Cardoons!! Jerusalem Artichokes!! Tiny Potatoes!!

Well, when I'm finding tiny potatoes and jerusalem artichokes exciting, you know that things are wound pretty far down in the Greenmarket. Today I bought some "golden nugget" potatoes and shallots from Mountain Sweet Berry to go under my Thanksgiving capon (which I'm getting from Quattro), a cheese pumpkin from Eckerton for my holiday soup, and the first of Ronnybrook's delicious eggnog (to sample). Other farms with excellent sugar pumpkins and other winter wquashes include Oak Grove, Stokes, Sycamore, and S&SO. Other farms with excellent potatoes include Berried Treasures, Paffenroth, and Stokes. Berried Treasures and Paffenroth have good-looking jerusalem artichokes and Bodhitree and Eckerton have interesting (and tasty) sweet potato and yam varieties.

Paffenroth, Stokes, Bodhitree, S&SO, and Keith have tasty braising greens and S&SO, Keith, Two Guys, Bodhitree, and others have salad greens and other vegetables for salad. Stokes and Paffenroth have cut herbs, beets, radishes, and turnips. Several stands have good-looking varieties of cauliflower and broccoli as well as brussels sprouts on and off the stem. Stokes has fresh lemon grass, string beans, and fennel. Paffenroth has beautiful baby fennel and all sorts of unusual greens.
