Signs of Spring! Phillips and River Garden have flowering branches, and River Garden has pussy willows!

March 16 Last Saturday Until May For Three Corner Field Farm Lamb Until May 4!!!

Other signs are just whispers of greens soon to come and flowering plants at Phillips.  The sun is out and everything just looks better, with beautiful poussins and mixed eggs (duck, turkey, chicken) at Violet Hill's stand, and all sorts of small salad greens at D'Attolico, Monks Hood, Shushan, Two Guys, and others.

I'm trying Beth's Farm Kitchen's ketchup this week, after enjoying their hot sauce a few weeks ago. If you can get a jar of their Meyer Lemon Marmalade, I strongly recommend it -- delicious.

Violet Hill Poussins and Rabbits
I picked up one of Quattro's delicious chickens and some soup meat for what I'm hoping will be the last huge vat of poultry stock of the season. I'll use Norwich Meadows carrots and turnips, Paffenroth's onions and leeks, and some (choke!) non-market celery, chicken parts and a pheasant from Quattro's. Feeling much better now that I've replaced the stock I had to throw out after Sandy.  I only wish there were a way to do the same for the gorgeous heirloom tomatoes I had to dump then.

This makes me so dearly miss the farmers market; I haven't been to Union Square since I had my foot surgery almost 2 months ago. On the plus side: I'll be there just in time for major asparagus season!
