First thing I bought today was a chicken from Quattro's. I also bought bags of legs and wings from Violet Hill. All of the poultry at both stands looks great today. Violet Hill also has gorgeous wild mushrooms. Stokes has greens, lemon grass and other herbs, big cauliflowers, and masses of pumpkins. Sycamore also has alot of pumpkins in addition to broccoli, tomatoes, and other produce.
Cato Corner is here with delicious cheeses and Cayuga and Our Daily Bread have wonderful breads to go with them. Beth's Farm Kitchen has all sorts of tasty jams and Ronnybrook has milks, cheeses, butters, and other dairy goodies. Tonjes has buttermilk, cheeses, and yogurts and PE&DD has fish and shellfish. Buzzard Crest is here with a variety of great grapes, grape juices, and wines.
Paffenroth has a huge selection of potatoes, carrots, greens, onion varieties, and unusual produce as do Lani and Norwich Meadows. Miglorelli and S&SO are also here with produce and other items. Locust Grove has apples, pears, and cider and Cherry Lane and Sycamore have still got heirloom tomatoes!

A Sunny Patch of Winter
Back from a week in England to find it just as cold here as it was around Cambridge! Just about every Friday stand is still here, although the offerings are slimmer. Still, you can get beautiful cheese from Dancing Ewe, Patches of Stars and Bobolink, and great bread from Cayuga, Hot Bread Kitchen, and Our Daily Bread. John Fazio is here with chicken, rabbit, and other good things, and Beth's Farm Kitchen is offering pretty Halloween gifts of delicious jams and chutneys. Salento Farm has garlic and garlic powder and Roaming Acres has ostrich meat and fresh eggs. Pura Vida has several kinds of very fresh fish. Tree-licious has quinces. Berried Treasures has STRAWBERRIES!!
Two Guys has lettuces and Bodhitree has great greens, unusual potatoes, peppers, and herbs, as well as beautiful beans and peppers. Miglorelli has plenty of produce, including a wide variety of gourds and squashes. Queens County Farm Museum has mixed greens and other produce. Sycamore and Oak Grove have gorgeous cheese and sugar pumpkins. They and Norwich have heirloom tomatoes (!) and several stands have broccoli. Muddy River and Sycamore have brussels sprouts.
Dutchmill has beautiful zinnias and other flowers and will probably be gone after this coming week for the year.

Check Last Wednesday's Report For Who's Here!
Pretty much everyone who was here last Wednesday is here today, mostly with the same produce. Eckerton has gorgeous CARDOONS and Lynhaven, in addition to their delicious cheeses, has a variety of chicken eggs as well as duck eggs. Most farmers I spoke to said they would be here at least until Thanksgiving. I was relieved to find that out, since I'll be away until October 25 and didn't want to miss saying goodbye before the Recessional gets under way. Dutchmill isn't here today, but may be here on Friday. Sycamore still has good looking heirloom tomatoes and corn and Eckerton has an excellent selection of hot peppers.
It's definitely pear and apple season and time to start drinking cider, if you haven't already! Cherry Lane and Stokes have great sauce tomatoes.

Sugar Pumpkins! Winter Squashes! Gourds! Grapes!
It's definitely apple and pear season, with Samascott, Locust Grove, and others bringing in many tasty varieties. There is also fresh apple cider and Red Jacket has all sorts of fruit flavored ciders and juices. Beth's Farm Kitchen has luscious jams and jellies, and Deep Mountain has maple products, including maple marshmellows. Madura has great looking produce and many interesting mushroom varieties.
Muddy River has fennel, cipollini, and other vegetables and Norwich has a wide choice of beans, greens, squashes, eggplants, and tomatoes. Sycamore has corn, tomatoes, heirloom tomatoes, and cauliflower. Cayuga is here with many dried beans, delicious whole wheat and ale breads, and Berried Treasures has beans, red and yellow raspberries, cherry tomatoes, and various tiny potatoes. Pura Vida has wonderful fresh fish. John Fazio has poultry and rabbit and Dancing Ewe is here with their fabulous cheeses (ask them about their CSA and gift boxes).

Sauce Tomatoes! Hot peppers! Celeriac!
Stokes, Berried Treasures, Bodhitree, Cherry Lane, Mountain Sweet Berry, and Sycamore all have delicious looking tomatoes for sauce. The heirlooms still look good, but if you're freezing heirloom tomatoes for the winter, this is the week to do it. Chill is in the air and supplies are definitely starting to shrink. Bodhitree and Berried Treasures have good looking beans and several stands have many types of eggplants, but those are on the downslide as well. There is a freeze in our near future and farmers are struggling to bring in good produce. Nevia of Bodhitree thinks she'll only be coming in for two more weeks, for instance.
Stokes has many pumpkins, lots of big bunches of herbs, and lemongrass. S&SO still has a good deal of produce, as do Paffenroth and Miglorelli, but you can see things starting to lessen in amounts and types of vegetable.

San Marzano, Federale, Purple Cherokee, all heirloom tomatoes!
Seize the day! Great tomatoes are to be had all over the market, but a frost could come at any time. Cherry Lane, Mountain Sweet Berry, Stokes, Norwich, Oak Grove, Sycamore, and others have excellent tomatoes, but the weather is changing. If you freeze tomatoes or make sauce for the freezer, now's the time.
Buzzard Crest is here with luscious grapes and grape juices. Some varieties will only be here for another week! Try the Jupiters! Quattro's has all kinds of poultry, eggs, and sausages. Violet Hill has Belle Rouge chickens and parts. Ronnybrook DOESN'T HAVE BUTTER OR CREME FRAICHE today.
Eckerton and Oak Grove have wonderful selections of hot peppers and Sycamore has corn, sweet peppers, and other produce. Stokes, Paffenroth, Ryder, Gorzynski, and others have cut herbs and Oak Grove has beautiful herb plants. Stokes, Sycamore, and others have sugar pumpkins and Paffenroth, Oak Grove, Stokes, and others have winter squashes. Norwich has all of those AND summer squash, beans, eggplants, and other goodies.
All of the usual suspects are here, except for Silver Heights (gone until next year). Violet Hill has gorgeous wild mushrooms and Bulich has beautiful cultivated ones. Cato is here with tasty cheeses and Three Corner Field Farm has cheeses, yogurts, and lamb cuts. Beth's Farm Kitchen has their excellent preserves and chutneys. Cayuga has lovely ale bread, whole wheat loaves, and beans.
