Raspberries, Basil, and Scapes

Several farmers have RASPBERRIES today. Sycamore has strawberries, as does Cherry Lane, and there are stands with tiny Tri-Star strawberries, including Berried Treasures. Sycamore and Shushan have basil, as does Stokes (who also has raspberries). Mountain Sweet Berry has wild baby arugula, delicious tiny red beets, irresistable petit pois, sugar snaps, and sucrine lettuce. Several farmers have garlic scapes and Keith's stand has young Rocambole garlic.

I'm going to have Cato's cheese with Our Daily Bread's whole wheat pain levain and Ronnybrook's sweet butter for breakfast, followed by Ronnybrook's Blueberry-Pomegranate drinkable yogurt.

Flora Perfecta has fragrant lilies and pretty roses and River Garden has beautiful wildflowers.

Cheeses and Strawberries

Had some errands this morning, so this is a late posting, but I wanted to drop in at the Greenmarket anyway. I found out that Samascott lost half of what was going to be a bumper crop of their outstanding blueberries -- they had a huge hailstorm and apples were also damaged. Fortunately, their fragrant strawberries survived and were here today. Dancing Ewe has their excellent cheeses and a new cheesemaker, Millport Dairy, is here with Coolby, baby swiss, and cheddar cheeses.

Cherry Lane has greenhouse heirloom tomatoes. Berried Treasures has Tri-Star strawberries, black mint, and other herbal treats. Stokes had raspberries! Paffenroth and S&SO are here with gorgeous produce and Windfall has green eggs and beautiful edible flowers as well as all sorts of greens. Kernan and Phillips have BLUEBERRIES! Evolutionary Organic Farm (only here on Wednesdays) has young garlic, a wide variety of unique greens, and flowering plants. Hoeffner has tomato and pepper plants, rhubarb, and other produce.

Favas, Peas, Squash

Look for sugar snap peas, strawberries, mini squashes, asparagus, pea shoots, and delicious leafy greens, young garlic, young onions (red and white), and fava beans. (Yuno has great favas today.)

The Monday market has become a great source of fresh produce, both organic and otherwise, with outstanding farmers such as Yuno (with a great assortment of beets, salad greens, greenhouse tomatoes, asparagus, and squash blossoms), Norwich (with mini squash, beautiful salad greens, and other tasty produce), and Maxwell (new potatoes, herbs, asparagus, strawberries). Race Farm is here with fragrant strawberries. Norwich should have fava beans in a couple of weeks and may even have tomatoes then!

Stuyvesant Town Greenmarket

I just checked out the Stuyvesant Town Greenmarket and I'm happy to say that it is small, but excellent! In addition to familiar stands, like Miglorelli, Beth's Jam, Bread Alone, and Samascott, there are new (to me) farmstands, meats, and fish. Seatucket Fish has a great stand, with excellent fresh fish. I tried their smoked bluefish and it was really delicious -- just the right (light) saltiness and subtle smoke. Glebocki Farms has good looking produce. Other farmers will be coming into the market soon. It is located in the middle of Stuyvesant Town, near the fountain, in a beautiful setting. Well worth checking out.

Interesting Yogurts!!!

Sycamore Farm's Delicious Strawberries

Three Corner Field Farm is back with lamb, yogurt, and cheeses. Ronnybrook has brought in their delicious drinkable blueberry/pomegranate yogurt.

Norwich Farm is here with their excellent produce, including Japanese turnips and all sorts of greens and should have their fresh fava beans soon. You'll find them on the second level of the 14th Street side of the Greenmarket.Mountain Sweet Berry has delicious sweet petit pois, chervil, chives, sucrine lettuce, and little potatoes. Paffenroth has gorgeous produce and S&SO has lovely lettuces and other produce. Gorzynsky has delicious organic lettuces, herbs, and root vegetables. Sycamore has delicious sugar snap peas and greenhouse tomatoes. Cherry Lane has tasty greenhouse heirloom tomatoes. Eckerton has mini zucchini, various radishes, and beautiful lettuces. Vinnie D'Attolico has beautiful greens and young garlic.

It's still the height of the strawberry season. If you can smell their perfume, they're fresh. They all look good to me, so I bought some from Stokes and some from Sycamore. Locust Grove has strawberries this week, as do Phillips and other farmers.
