A surprise

I didn't get to do the report this morning, but I did go to the market to get some mushrooms from Madura, rillettes from Hudson Valley Duck Farm, and take a look around in the afternoon. I was surprised and happy to find that Las Delicias is now in the Union Square market on Mondays as well as Fridays, with their wonderful pastries!  The usual Monday stands were there, including Roaming Acres(ostrich meat) and Healthway (potatoes). Central Valley was there with a wide selection of cheeses, including ricotta, cheddars, and others, and butter. (By the way, Central Valley is now also in the Friday market!!)

Thanks to Mark Bittman for his article on potato recipes in the NY Times Magazine!

I checked out the recipes and they all look good -- so I'm going to make one a week for ten weeks, by which time we'll see the first Spring vegetable, I hope. Maybe ramps!!

You'll find all kinds of great potatoes today at Paffenroth, S&SO, Mountain Sweet Berry, and Norwich Meadows. (S&SO may be gone after next weekend, by the way.) Cayuga has excellent dried beans -- check to see how long you should soak them as they are pretty fresh and will probably not need overnight soaking.  Modesto recommends the yellow eye beans, in case you want to experiment.
