Hurricane Preparations? Buy vegetables and fruit and plan cold meals with cheese!

I have peaches from Cheerful Cherry and Sycamore, tomatoes from Norwich, Sycamore, Keith, and Stokes, bread from Cayuga, jam from Beth, beans from Bodhitree, charontaise melon from Norwich (last weekend for them), and corn from Sycamore. I have herbs from Stokes, blueberries from Samascott, and yogurt from Hammond. I have feta cheese from Kalustyan (not in the Greenmarket, but it will be great with the tomatoes) and Molly's Folly cheese from Cato. I have duck livers from John Fazio that I'll make Bittman's Indian chicken liver dish with.

Tomorrow I will fill a couple of pots with water and set up the steamer with water for corn. With the Greenmarket so close, I don't think I'll be having an unhappy hurricane experience! Like the Boy Scouts, I am Prepared!!

Avocado Squash, Purple and Green Long Beans, Maiitake Mushrooms, Heirloom Tomatoes and Eggplants

I ran into one of the Top Chef Masters at Lani's stand this morning, and he recommended the avocado squashes. I picked up a couple of those and some purple and green long beans. They have beautiful produce, including many varieties of squash, bean, pepper, lettuce, and other greens, as well as tasty heirloom tomatoes and eggplants. Next door, at Norwich Meadow's stand, I found gorgeous melons, peppers, heirloom tomatoes, and herbs. Last Saturday, I bought one of their Charontais melons and it was perfect -- sweet, juicy, and delicious.

Check out Roaming Acres for all sorts of bison, Berkshire pork, and ostrich meat.

Eckerton is here with a very wide selection of heirloom tomatoes in many sizes and varieties, from tiny cherry to very large. You can buy single mixtures or a mixed box. Madura is here with many kinds of mushroom, including criminis, maiitakes, and oyster. PE&DD has succulent fish and seafood and Duncan Dairy Farm has whole milk in various sizes. Red Jacket has many different kinds of plums and their always excellent apricots. Check out a new entry in the Monday market, Raghoo, a stand with chickens, whole and part rabbits, ground chicken, and duck eggs. Hudson Valley Duck Farm is here with ducks, rillettes, smoked duck, and other duck products.
